We are Inês and João, two designers and makers from the interior of Portugal. We grew up in Trás-os-Montes and Ribatejo, where things happen slowly and working with your hands is just part of how life goes. Surrounded by repeated gestures, by materials known through touch, by a rural world that teaches without explaining itself.

We left early. Architecture took us across cities and oceans, from Porto to Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Lisbon, and eventually Barcelona, where design opened new doors. We worked with others, and learned to see from the outside. And it was only by leaving that we were able to understand where we came from.

That meant coming back, not to where we were from, but to what we believed in. To simple food, to manual work, to a slowness that is not delay, but choice. To the quiet richness of what endures.

ABOUT US

In 2019, before we had a studio or a single object to show, we found the name: Limbo. It came before everything else, before the brand, before the pieces. It was born from a place of doubt and possibility. We have never been just one thing, architects, designers, ceramists, and perhaps that is why we have always stayed in between. In the interval. In limbo.

LIMBO, created in 2026, is a tableware studio rooted in Portugal. Objects for the home, meant to be used, to last, and to carry something of the people who made them. We started with ceramics, shaped by hand from clay. The material may change; the intention never will.
